Cnoc Soilleir

I'm delighted to announce that I've been commissioned to produce a series of images of Cnoc Soilleir during the construction of the building culminating in an exhibition at the newly opened centre. The images will capture the materials and process of the build, the beginning of a new chapter in the culture of South Uist.

A joint venture between Ceòlas Uibhist and Lews Castle College UHI (LCC/UHI), Cnoc Soilleir (the bright hill) will be a centre for community-led activities around Gàidhlig language learning, heritage, culture, music and dance located at Dalabrog in Uibhist a Deas (South Uist). The initial opening date had been delayed to to Covid but I believe the plan is now to open late 2021.

I'll be working on images during the course of this year as the construction continues in collaboration with a local poet/writer who will produce words to go alongside the images. The resulting works will form a mixed media exhibition to be displayed at Cnoc Soilleir.

I'm both excited and honoured to have been asked to carry out this commission, and look forward to being able to share work with you as the project develops.

To find out more about the building project visit the Ceòlas Uibhist website here. I'll be posting more information about the build and my work as the months progress. Subscribe to this page or follow on social media to see how the project develops.

Thanks to Cally, Frank and all at Ceòlas Uibhist for the commission.
